Slynk – Shambhala Fractal Forest LIVE 2011 by Slynk

Not that I’m searching the local clubs or out that much, but one local dj that i can’t stop raving is DJ Slynk, especially his 2011 funk mix (download here) and already posted on this site.

Above is his latest release an I’m sure you’ll all quickly approve. (Press the little down arrow on the right of the player to download an keep.)

I don’t know him or met him, but I managed to catch a few moments of his time an complete an interview … its as follow.

“Digital Audio Workstations in general effected the game in a big way. You can go out and spend $800 and you have everything you need to make music on your computer. Everyone has a computer in 2011.”

1) For those that dont know, bring us all up do date on Dj Slynk?
Well I just got back from Canada. I was playing this festival over there called Shambhala. Its the best festival in the world full stop. Did a few side shows in the surrounding cities including one supporting Deekline in Edmonton which was really sweet! I’ve been gigging my butt off. So far this year I’ve played shows in Melbourne, Perth, Sydney, Hobart, Gold Coast, Byron Bay, Auckland, Hamilton Island and Jindabyne. A lot of these shows are Regrooved parties which is a worldwide club night which is promoting funky music of all kinds. I’m a big fan and supporter of these parties.

Production projects in the works,
I’m doing a remix for Basement Freaks which will be going on a remix album to follow up the release of his new album
I’ve got a few songs coming out very soon on D*Funk & Philly Blunt’s label, Grits & Gravy. Should be out next month.
I’m very close to finishing an EP for Ghetto Funk Records, its going to be huge!
I’m doing a collaboration with Pimpsoul for his EP titled Pimpsoul & Friends.
I’m doing a collaboration with The Funk Hunters which are doing a similar EP.

“Laruche in the Valley is great too. Its such a beautiful venue. You have to see it to know what I mean. Its a classy venue and everyone likes to be seen there looking their best but they really know how to party and they’re not shy about it!”

The luxury of saying it’s not good enough

Saturday, August 20th, 2011 - Tags: - Posted in blog, me, web, writing

“You cannot work too hard at poetry. People are bad at it not because they have tin ears, but because they simply don’t have the faintest idea how much work goes into it. It’s not as if you’re ordering a pizza or doing something that requires direct communication in a very banal way. But it seems these days the only people who spend time over things are retired people and prisoners. We bolt things, untasted. It’s so easy to say, ‘That’ll do.’ Everyone’s in a hurry. People are intellectually lazy, morally lazy, ethically lazy…All the time. When people get angry with a traffic warden they don’t stop and think what it would be like to be a traffic warden or how annoying it would be if people could park wherever they liked. People talk lazily about how hypocritical politicians are. But everyone is. On the one hand we hate that petrol is expensive and on the other we go on about global warming. We abrogate the responsibility for thought and moral decisions onto others and then have the luxury of saying it’s not good enough.” – Stephen Fry

Not to get preachy, but you just gotta think, sometimes, why even bother with it all, alot of the time, an that’s what’s up…

Anyways, song.
