L.A. Noire out today

Wednesday, May 18th, 2011 - Tags: - Posted in blog, games

L.A. Noire may well be a watershed moment for Rockstar; there’s a sophistication here we haven’t seen before. Much like the adventure games of decades past, it demands thoughtfulness rather than fast reflexes, and rewards you with a twisting story set in an artfully imagined world.

Ups: Utterly brilliant motion capture, voice acting, and soundtrack. Noir themes and techniques are seldom intrusive, and act to compliment the story. Good game length, engaging story, and fantastic art direction. Innovative action-adventure with a solid level of difficulty.

Downs: Some minor annoyances in enemy AI. Occasional graphical glitches. Repetitive NPC banter. Internal camera angles can be frustrating. Location of Street Crime events promotes backtracking.

Iron Mikes Punch Out …

Thursday, March 31st, 2011 - Tags: , - Posted in blog, games, writing

Because we love Iron Mike around here.

In 1987, Mike Tyson starred in Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out!!, a Nintendo boxing game that featured over-the-shoulder pugilism. Now, in 2011, Mike Tyson stars in Mike Tyson – Main Event, a boxing game that features over-the-shoulder pugilism. Only now, there’s no Nintendo.

This new game is made by RockLive, and is, yes, a Punch-Out clone for the iPhone. Which is free.

Download it from your app store.
