- The same thing"Even after almost two years of living in NYC, returning here after being out of town still makes me feel the wonder and novelty of a tourist. The lights of the Empire State and Chyrsler Buildings from across the river. Crossing Manhattan past the residences on the long blocks and downtown past the bodegas and restaurants lining the avenues. The three 80s-style heavy metal chicks filming a commercial. Hipsters with bags laden with hummus hailing cabs in Chelsea. And an impromptu puppy gathering on the front steps of my building; more soft fur than any one town deserves for itself. - kottke.org
I hope one day I can say the same thing!

- Guardian n Norman Cook "Another Guardian journalist's first-ever professional assignment was to interview Cook there for a dance music magazine. The interview ended in pandemonium after Cook suggested everyone take ketamine, a particularly potent and unpredictable hallucinogen: the photographer eventually had to be escorted home, convinced that everyone was "plotting against him".
"You can't just 'dip your toe' when you're clubbing in Ibiza," he cautions at one point. "You have to 'go all the way'."

- Underground movies David Pescovitz: I'm disappointed that I missed catching a flick in a secret cinema/restaurant below the streets of Paris. Police discovered the theater--complete with electricity, CCTV security, and phone lines--within an uncharted cavern in the city's 170 miles of tunnels and caves. According to The Guardian, a full-size screen and projector had been installed and police found "a wide variety of films, including 1950s film noir classics and more recent thrillers." A stocked bar and "pressure-cooker for making couscous" was also discovered.
Three days later, when the police returned accompanied by experts from the French electricity board to see where the power was coming from, the phone and electricity lines had been cut and a note was lying in the middle of the floor: "Do not," it said, "try to find us." - via boing boing

- Bill Gates is teh funny I thought this was funny. When asked about the fact that Apple/Pixar CEO Steve Jobs thinks the portable video market is going nowhere, Bill Gates responded:
"Ask kids in the back of a car on a two-hour trip, ‘Hey, would you like to have your videos there?’ My kids would,” Gates said. “I guess Steve’s kids just listen to Bach and Mozart. But mine, they want to watch ‘Finding Nemo.’ I don’t know who made that, but it’s really a neat movie."
Big ups Billy Boi ... If you would like to read the full interview, Check it out in the enjoying section.

- Sweep The Leg Karate for Christ An inspired blend of Eastern Philosophy and Western Religion or just fundamentalism reaching too far? Also check out Kicks for Christ and the Christian Martial Arts Association . This begs the question: if the diciples were ninjas, would Jesus have died on the cross?
Sweep the leg, Pontius....
(pause)
Do you have a problem with that?
No, Sensai.

- The - I dont know I have recently decided that I am a big “ I don’t know”. I didn’t know what to make of this conclusion until I realized that I am afraid of feeling the “I don’t know”. I once heard the meaning of life described as: “To suffer and die”. I think this has a lot of merit. If this is the case, the only way to avoid pain is death. If I cannot accept death, maybe I can keep living a little longer if I can simply accept my own suffering. I think, in our pursuit of happiness, we find many shallow experiences since they do not hurt us, yet they bring us nothing but closer to the "I dont know". I don’t want to suffer but neither do I want to die. Perhaps I can endure life as long as I know that the things that hurt me are those who are closet to me and that’s what keeps me alive. This sounds like anguished teenage rambling but is probably more significant to me now than as a teenager. Whether it is a sign of maturity or immaturity I don’t know. It is how I feel.

- Clerks 2 - The Passion Good news. Kevin Smith is working on a sequel to Clerks. This is especially good news for those of you who happened to hate Jersey Girl.
"It's about what happens when that lazy, 20-something malaise lasts into your
30s. Those dudes are kind of still mired, not in that same exact situation, but in a place where it's time to actually grow up and do something more than just sit around and dissect pop culture and talk about sex," Smith said during an interview at his Hollywood office. "It's: What happened to these dudes?"
